PLAYING BACK YOUR VIDEO IN PREMIERE PRO CC
Double-click on any clip in the Project panel and it will appear in the Source Monitor. There are several different ways to control your video and audio playback depending both on personal preference and different situations. The first is to simply click the play button in the Source or Program monitors. You’ll notice that this starts the movement of the playhead along the timeline. You can also drag the playhead to skim through the footage quickly or to drop it in at a specific point. However, once you get into editing you likely will not want to move the mouse every time you need playback, and that’s where some important keyboard shortcuts come in.
Note that for these following keyboard controls to work in the Source Monitor, the Source Monitor must be the active panel (note the blue bounding box when active). The playback controls will otherwise default to the Timeline if any other panel is active.
The space bar on your keyboard serves as a quick and easy play and stop function. Press once to play, press again to stop.
THE J,K AND L KEYS
The J,K and L keys on your keyboard are a more refined way of controlling playback when used in different combinations, and are especially useful when playing through a large volume of footage. Think of them like the Play, Stop, Rewind and Fast Forward buttons on your TV’s remote control.
